SERIOUS FIRE AT NELSON.

NELSON, February 7.
Griffon's flour mill, confectionery and biscuit factory, in Alton street, was totally destroyed by fire at three o'clock this morning. A strong wind was blowing, and the houses in the vicinity were saved with difficulty. Webley'a, bootmaker, was partially burnt. Griffen'e is the most serious loss, His modern machinery being destroyed. Hβ estimates the place was worth £10,000. The insurances are ;—-Phoenix, £450 on stock; New Zealand, £300 on building ; Standard, £400 on building end machinery, halfreinsured Phoenix; alliance, £500 on stock; South British, £260 on machinery ; Norwich Union, £300 on machinery and £100 on building, engine, and. boiler, which were saved. Webley'e house was insured for £100 io the Sun, and was a partial loss The fire is supposed to have started in the Confectionery drying room. The factory was locked up apparently safe by Mr Griffen last evening. The origin of the fire is unknown. .
