THE FIJIAN CRICKET MATCH.
. One of the most interesting cricket matches which have yet taken place in Chriatchurch will be played to-day and tomorrow at Lancaster Park, when a Canterbury Eleven will meet a representative Eleven from Fiji. The visitors arrived by Ihe Southern express last night, and were met at the Christchurch railway station by the Coramitteo of the Canterbury Cricket Association and a large number of our cricketers. The native contingent, who are all men of exceptionally fine phyaiquo, at on je attracted the attention ami excited the ad'.niratioa of the large crowd of people who bad assembled at the station io witness the arrival of the visitors. The match will commence to-day at 2 p.m., and will be continued at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The charge for admission will be one shilling for gentlemen, and sixpence for ladies, admission to all the stands being sixpence. The Hon. J. S. UJal will captain .the visitors, and the Canterbury captain will bo elected on the' ground before the commencement of the match. Mr F. C Gerard hae consented to act as umpire for the local team. In spite of the somewhat disparaging repoit which came from Duuedin a few day ago as to the visitore* pUy we understand that the Hon. Secretary of the Association received a telegram to-day from the Captain of the {Southland team repie seating the Fijian team as a very strong one, and by no means to be underrated. . A match was played at Hagley Park yeator.lay between teams of twelve aside representing the Curiatchurch Veteraus and the .officers of the local volunteers, the former winning by 53 runs on the first inuiugs. Webb , divided . the bowhug honooi-s, Tho officers only scored. 33 in their first innings, and foliowiug on they, inaile 78 for the loss of ten wickets. For the lowers the Rev. Bean ecored 19 and 14, P«laiceb 29 nob out, Dr. J enninga 12 and R. J. S. Harman 9. Hooker and Taylor bowled excellently for the winners. - ' Teams representing Fuhrmann's furniture "the former winning by an innings and 67 ruua. Scores:—Hairdressers, 52 (Uodgere 34 not out) aud 36 (Biggins 29); Fuhrmauu'e, 155 (C. (Jusack 61 not out and Riohards 34). Uueack, Marshal), Richards, and Reay bowled well for the winners, and Biggins took eight wickets for the Hairdressers.,
