Mr Angel, of Adelaide, states'that a large smelting firm has adopted his process of smelting sulphide ores, and arranged to erect works at Swansea. They will purchase for treatment there Broken Hill sulphide ores, which have hitherto been too expensive to work. SAMOA. The Commission appointed by Great Britain, Germany, and' America to consider the land claims in Samoa recognise most of the German claims and largely curtail* those of Great Britain and America. The best of tho land has boen allotted to the Germans. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS , . SCHOOLS. . February 7. Mr Jno. Morloy will provido for the inclusion of the Christian Brothers' Schools in the education grant when they become efficient. COLONIAL CLERGY. A letter in Truth, signed " Colonist," alleges that the ignorance of the clergy compelled the sending to England for a successsor to Bishop Eennion. THE WAIHI-SILVERTON MINING COMPANY. The Waihi-Silverton Mining Company of New Zealand has extended its capital to £60,000, and the £10,000 offered to the public was subscribed twofold. THE CONGO. Paris, February 6. Franco and Belgium have reaffirmed a pre-emptive right to the Congo. , COMPULSORY EDUCATION. St. Petebsbubg, February 7. Tho Czar has summoned a commission" of experts to devise a scheme of compulsory education. '
