JUNIOR CUP MATCHES.

. . [By Light Bltjbl The weather was fine for the commencement of the last series of Junior Cup matches, in the first round on Saturday, but Friday's rain caueed the grounds to be a little in favour of the bowlers. The unbeaten St. Albana team bad a little the best of their match with Addington, but the margin in their favour is bub slight, and the game is by no means a foregone conclusion. Day hit hard in the Addingtonian's first innings in making Iβ, but none of the other* reached doubles against the good bowling of Parkyn and Frith, all the men but oue being bowled. St. Albans misaed the services of R. Smith, and C. Col ville was also an absentee. Half their wickets were down for only 3S runs, bub Jackinan ami Parkyn more than doubled the score, and in the end they bad an advantage of 30 runs. By the call ot time Addington had nearly wiped off the deficit, and far the loss of one wicket only. The Midland-Lancaster Park contest promises to furnish an interesting flnfcb. The Midland started so well that their supporters began to talk of the big score they would make, the first wicket falling for 36. This average, however, was noc maintained, and the total only reached 89. Lane, who has not been prominent of late, was top scorer, and of the .others C. Garrard, Barnes And Richards did best. The only redeeming feature ot the Lancaster Park's innings was the stand made by Pavict and Smith, the pair adding 64 runs to the total while together. The former hit the first ball be received from Barry clean out of the ground for 6, and Smith treated Barnes similarly at the close ot his innings. Garrard and Forayth batted well in the Midland second inniugs. The fielding was good on both sides. The United batsmen gob fairly going in their con tee t with the Warehousemen, and ana result they ran up the good total of 222, although batting only ten men. Perry was In some time for his 36, but ftolleaton'e 35 were knocked up very quickly. Vincent and Kitto batted in fine style ia making 34 each, and the latter, carried his bat, while B. J. Cottexingare a glimpse of his old hitting powers In compiling 31. The bowling calls for no comment; and the fleldingwas below Junior Cup form. The Warehousemen's batting was on a par with their bowling and fielding, and in a very short time the lot were dismissed for the small total of 47. Kittoand Rollerton each trundled well, and the fielding was good.

The President's Cup matches commenced on Saturday were not as important as usual, as the United No. 1 team were meeting their No. 2 team, anil the Midland No. 1 team won their contest with Papanui by default. - v The Lancaster Park and Warehousemen's No. 2 team's game promises to be a close one, and it is evident that the. latter eleven is a better one than several in the competition. The run getting was low and. the bowlers in consequence secured good averages. The ground fielding at the P&ik could be greatly improved upon, but their catching was extremely good. Cuff and Irwtu each making a splendid catch. The United No. 1. and No. 2. contest was chiefly noticeable for the good batting «of Tapper and the bowling of Beckett for the No. 1.

St. Albana had all the best of their match with Addington and they should win easily. • • ■ The Junior Cup Committee were to have considered the Hi«h School Warehousemen 8 protest at their meeting last Thursday, night, but as only three delegates turned up the matter was shelved until next meeting. The only business done was arranging the wounds for the next few rounds of the President's Cup. The hon. sec Informs mc that thiafls the second meeting he has- called to consider the protest, the first one falling through for the want of a quorum, and last week's, busmes3 was informal until a fourth delegate arrived an hour , late, when a motion Was passed confirming what had been done.. 1 mention these facts to let clubs know how their delegates act for them.' . .
