A pigeon shooting match for an, open handicap of 100 aova, and 65 eovs to the firat man, 20 aova to the second, 10 soys to the third, and 5 soya to the fourth, was held under the auspices of the Wellington Provincial Gun Club, on the show grounds at Petone, to-day. The conditions were— nine birds to each competitor. There was a fair attendance, and of twenty-nine nominations twenty-four accepted. Messrs H. Bailey and W. T. Broderickkilled all their birds, and divided the first and second prizes, and Messrs Scott, IT. W. Feast, and G. Matthews missed one each and divided the third and fourth prizes. TJie Weekly Herald newspaper, which ceased publication come months ago, is to be started again shortly.

Charles Murdoch was charged at the Police Court. to-day with committing a criminal assault on a girl, aged eighteen yean of age. The evidence showed that the accused, forced his way into the bouse in the absence of the parents at midnight on Saturday last. The accused was committed for tnaL
