NEW ZEALAND WORKERS UNION.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held in the office of the Union, Bedford Row, on Friday evening, the vice-Chairman presiding. Correspondence was received as follows:— From Mr J. O'Brien, General Secretary, Waimate, ou Uniou matters; also informing the branch that the Executive were taking steps to have tbe Union as a whole registered under tbe Conciliation »nd Arbitration Act instead of each branch separately registering. From Lea Flats, Otago, Olentui, Rhoborough Downs, Little River, Hakatere, Montalto, Ashburton, Oamaru, Doable Hill, Morven Hill, Highfield and the Spit freezing works, Napier, on Union natters. The Secretary reported that she had gone to Amberley and paid the expenses in connection with the burial of the late D. Murphy, and visited Dr. Fitzgerald who had attended the sufferers by the accident, and that he had given her 10s off the account as a donation towards the funds now being collected for the burial of the one poor lad, and for the benefit of the other lad Varsey when able to leave the Hospital. Dr. Fitzgerald spoke in warm praise of the two men Sellers and Dallard, and also of Guard Grant. It was resolved to forward the thank* of the members of the branch to those men who at the time of the accident responded to tbe call of humanity. A discussion ensued on the state of the labour market in Christchurch. It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Hon. J. M'Kenzie, Minister {or Lands, to urge upon him the necessity of putting the compulsory clause of the Lands Act into force Before j*the winter sets in, in order that the cry of 'the unemployed be not beard again this coming winter. The Secretary was asked to wait on the Premier, Hon. R. J. Seddon, on his passing through Christchuroh to urge upon him the Eab necessity of unding works of some d for the unemployed.
