There was a good attendance of members, and a iarge amount of business was transacted. Four candidates were proposed for membership. It was decided to have harmony after the lodge meetings in future. Postal—The Postal authorities inform us that tbe Queensland Government has refused to accept printed papers from this colony prepaid at one half-penny each, and that they are now surcharging any such matter that may be prepaid less than one penny. Therefore printed papers for Queensland must be prepaid one penny each for any weight under 4oz. There is no other change in the progression of rates. New Zealand Band Association-. — A meeting of the Executive was held last eveniug; Mr W. F. McLean occupying the cbair. The following members were also present: — Messrs R. Trist Searell, J. Hughes, J. Painter, sen., E Ghons and Hon. Sec (*V. Mansell). Apologies were received from others who were unavoidably absent. Correspondence was read from Isjvercargill Committee. Garrison, Wellington, Hastings (Hawke's Bay) and the Woolston band. The Contest Committee correspondence was of a decidedly vague nature, and not calculated to finish up the last contest. After a debate as to what steps should be taken, it was resolved—' . That those bands directly interested ia tbe decision of the Protest Committee be requested to take each steps as may be deemed necessary to settle the long-pending dispute, thereby allowing Timaru bandsmen a clear course for 1895." Mr E. Round, Secretary Woolaton Baud, wrote, re the action of Associated Bands in re Lyttelton regatta. It was agreed—" That the Secretary reply, stating that the complaint mentioned in the letter should be forwarded to the Secretary of the local branch; also, to forward what other information may be required." Other matters relating to the Associated Bands having been dissussed, the Secretary was empowered to confer with his Worship the Mayor re a New Zealand Challenge Cup, to be available for the Zealandia contest proposed to be held in Timaru. Each band represented decided to withdraw from the local branch, with a view of having matters arranged on a more 'satisfactory basis. Several gentlemen's names were handed in, and the Hon. Secretary instructed to write to each of them re honorary membership. The meeting adjourned till February 2nd.
