THE TRAM ACCIDENT.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE PBESS. Sib, —Attracted by the screams of a boy in a police van -on Saturday about 121 stopped my trap .and made enquiries, then drove ofr\ to the • Hospital and begged authorities to come on and give chloroform. The Chairman at last gave mc some chloroform and I jumped up in the police van and gave the poor boy chloroform until he was safely placed in bed. Some few minutes elapsed before anyone came to give him chloroform in the Hospital. The papers state he, was operated on in the afternoon. I demand to know why he was not operated on at once. How many hours, elapsed before he was relieved of his mangled extremities. If_ the surgeon for the week could not attend why was not the second surgeon sent for, or the house surgeon allowed to operate. ' - When the police knew a mangled boy was coming along jn the tram why did they not obtain the aer vices of the Hospital or some other surgeon, or even Brown with chloroform to go with the ambulance to be'in readiness ? Mr Editor, if you had heard the shrieks of the boy you would have said it was a. disgrace to Chrietchurch, If with telephones he was allowed to lie in the Hospital unoperated on until the afternoon it is a still greater disgrace to Chrietchuroh. —Yours, &c, - ' W. E. Haoon.
