WELLINGTON.

January 8. This might with justice be called the, silly season, for there is nothing particular doing, thongh many no doubt regard the session as the silly season ne plus ultra All oar modest little watering places are just now very much on the gui vive, and the sea near the shore is jnst now teeming /with a new Inhabitant, endowed with two legs and more or less inability to swim. If i one has lost the gift of laughing, all one ; has to do for its restoration is to spend a few days at a watering-place, i and; be. «n evidence when. the inhabitants go forth to bathe.' Then -one will see many of the ppcctea of objects one meets when out without one's gun.- It ie an excellent opportunity for deciding whether one will adopt the knfckerbocker style of costume, aud I think you will decide with mc that to thone very few who have the perfect form of Venae it is eminently becoming. There is jttst bow a warm discussion on the tapis as to whether or not men and women should bathe to* gether. Boh sides of the question have keen adherents, and many are desirous ol seeing the question thoroughly threshed out. The custom of bathing together Jias been already, adopted at some watering places, hence the discussion. Amougst those who leave this month for England are Mr and Mrs of Wangauui, who have been for some time living in Wellington. Mr? Vaugban, ie will be remembered, was Mies C. Brandon.
