In answer to Mrs Gaemsojt, Mr Murray stated that some of the Council's men* were employed as gangers, but only their time wa3 charged, and nothiug had been charged for the horses and implements.; It was necessary that there should be gangers. Mr Ensom expressed tbe opinion that the Council had been somewhat mean in the matter and ought not to have charged the fund with the cost of the gangers. Mr Baliingeb said that the balance-sheet showed that close upon £30 had gone from the fund to the Council's employees,' which should have been expended on the aged unemployed. Mrs Gaemson submitted that the amount which the Mayor was out of pocket should be paid by the -Council whose men had received the money. - Mr JBnsom supported this view, seeing that the sum of £200 had been spent in improving the city. The Mayor, as a member, of the Committee and a private citizen, held it would oe the duty of the Committee to-forward a resolution to the Council-to refund the £11 to Mr Gapes, seeing that the citizens had benefited. He moved in that direction. Mr Eksom seconded the'motion, which i was carried. ~ { The , balance-sheet as presented was adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Gapes for his services. A vote of thanks m Mr Bishop dosed the proceedings.
