A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

■ The Committee of the Canterbury A. and P, Association met yesterday. Present —Messrs E. G. Staveley (Vice President), J. T. Ford, W. Henderson, E. Gray, J. Deans, H. P. Marray-Ayneley, VV. Recce, J. Anderson, Juor., H. Overton, C. Lewis, P. Duncan, C. J. Wilson, K. H. Rhodes, G. Gould, Sir John Hall, and the Hon. J. IT. Peacock. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs P. Cunningham, G. Rhodes, G. Jameson and J. Ferguson. Tho Secretary of the Wellington A. and P. Association wrote in reply to a memorandum from the Canterbury Association concerning Mr Baker's entry of Jersey cattle At the last Wellington show. The Secretary stated that he thought fie matter must have arisen through the entry form having been wrongly filled in by the person whom Mr Baker had deputed to enter his cattle for the show. He (the Secretary) was certain that the pedigree iiad not been given with a view to deceive. In a second Fetter he stated that the entry was made two days before the show by Messrs Scales <a member of Committee) and Cruickehank. An explanation on the matter by Mr Scales was enclosed. The enclosure was to the effect that Messrs Scales and Cruickshank Visited the Christchurch show, and in the boat homewards wrote out the entries received for the Wellington show. Mr Baker bad entered several horses and cattle with Mr Cruickshank, giving the names only. Among them were a Jersey bull and a beifer, the former having been purchased at the Christchurch grounds. The bull's pedigree was taken from the Christchurch catalogue by Messrs Cruickshank and Scales, who proceeded to do the same as regarded the heifer. Che nearest approach to the name of the heifer "Elderberry" was that of "Bilberry." The writers talked the matter over and came to the conclusion that Mr Baker must have made a mistake, the names of ** Bilberry's " sire and dam ohiefly leading them to the conclusion. Hence the entry In the Wellington catalogue. Mr Scales apologised for the. mistake, With which Mr Baker had nothing co do. Mr Gould expressed himself satisfied toith the explanation. Acwotrata amounting to £74 10a were passed for payment. (The Secretary reported that a meeting of the Flock Book Committee had been arranged for the 23rd met. The Sub-Committee appointed to revise the general regulations for the November Show, submitted their report, the amendments and alterations being discussed, and Will, according to the rule* of the Association, be submitted at the next Committee meeting previous, to the annual meeting in Jtfaroh. The principal alterations referred to penal clauses introduced to enable the Committee to deal with fraudulent entries. The meeting then adjourned.
