REEFTON J.C.'S MIDSUMMER MEETING

" Weeklr Press and Referee."

FiRST DAY—WEDNESDAY, DEC. 26,

Beautiful weather, a good attendance and really good sport was the luck accorded the Reef ton Club for their Midsummer gathering. The attendance was quite 2000 and the grandstand was packed with ladies from all parts of the Coast, all seemingly bent upon enjoying the sport. Then were no accidents to mar the pleasures of the meeting, consequently everything went off well. The contest for the Cap was really good, and the horsemanship displayed by Brown on Goodwood is worthy of commendation. He rode a waiting race and made a, brilliant finish. A protest for jostling was entered by the owner of Gerainr, bat the evidence of M'Kay, the rider of Doubtful, dispelled the idea that any jostling took place and the stewards dismissed the protest. - Their decision was well received by the public. There is no doubc but that the beat horse won, and won honestly. The conduct of the meeting was hardly up to what It should have been, too much tine being wasted between events, contequently it was nearly dark before the last race was over. The secretary was, aa usual, the right man in the right place, and must be accorded praise for bis energy and courtesy. The sum of £2643 was put through Che totallsator.
