"PROVIDED FOR."

MORE OF MR McKENZIE'S APPOINTMENTS.

We quoted from the Otago Daily Times yesterday a list of twenty-five of the Hon. J. McKenzie's relations and friends who had been helped to comfortable billets by that gentleman during his term of office. Our contemporary explained that this was not a complete list which, ib said, would fill a column of its space. It is a pity, however, to hide from the world so large a proportion of the good deeds the blushing Minister has been able to perform on behalf of his relatives and cronies—of course largely at the publio expense. Without any trouble at all we are able to supplement the* list already published-by another nineteen samples of nepotism carried out by the Minister of Lands during the comparatively short time he has been on the Treasury Benches. Here they are :—

One point strikes us very'forcibly in looking down this list, and that is that if the Hon. J. McKenzie remains iv office much longer the rural district of Shag Valley will become depopulated. All the inhabitants will be transferred to snug " kid-glove.", appointments, and the Valley will become a howling waste. And what a remarkable district it must be to have produced such an array ot administrative talent 1 Still more remarkable is the fact that all this talent was perfectly dormant and unknown until the Hon. J. McKenzie dug it out.
