CANTERBURY ELEVEN v EIGHTEEN JUNIORS.
A whole day's match under the auspices of the Canterbury Cricket Association will be played to-morrow between the above teams, when the following will represent then* respective sides :— The Eleven—W. Cooke, W. J. Cotterill, L. A. Cuff, H. De Mans. A. M. Labatt, J. D. Lawrence, F. A. Macdonald, T. H. North, H. 0. and A. Ridley, and W. Robertson.
The Eighteen—J. Forsyth, Molone, F. Cooke, Gunthorpe, Shaw, Evans, D. Reese, Sohmoll, Quinn, Baird,. Gibbons, R. Smith, Ritchie, Harris, J. Colville, Gardner, Vincent, and E. P. Barnes (captain). Emergencies—W. G. Garrordi C. Colville, A. O'Brien, and ManselL
In picking the eighteen the Junior Cup Committee, as far as possible, chose young players who ore likely to improve, and several older players, such, as Washer, Turner, and S. Forsyth, although they are better performers this season than some included, were not picked in order to make room for younger players.
, A scratch match was played atHagley Park on Saturday last between teams chosen by Messrs Wheatley and Richards, the bitter's winning by 41 runs. Scores — Wheatley'a team, 67 (Lawrence 10 and Orchard 12); Richards's team, 108 (Evans 28, Beckett 18, aud Ashby and Vincent 17 each). Richards bowled very well for bis Bide, taking nine wickets, while D. Reese was the most successful trundler for the losers. The Hardware and Springston Clubs played a match at Springsbon on Christmas Day, when the visitors won by seven runs on the first innings, after a close and exciting game. The scores were—Hardware 83 and 95, Springston 76 and 70 for five wickets. Hossell 18 and 23, Marchant 33, Trusoott 23, and C. Turner 15 were the principal scorers for the winners, and McDonald 21 and 20, E. Keest 18, J. Keast 15, and Elba 10 for the losers. Hassell, Henry, Prankish, and Truscott, and McDonald, Kimbar, E. and J. Keast bowled well for their respective sides. The visitors were entertained by the Springston Club, and when leaving showed their appieciation by heartily cheering them, and also the ladies Who provided refreshments. In a match at Kaiapoi between the Coutts island and Woollen Mill teams, the latter ■ Korod in their first innings 66 (Leithead 18, Pearce 16); second innings 43 (Wilby 19. Pearce 10).
