(rzussa association tmbgeams.) AUCKLAND, December 29. The man Rowe, reported missing from the sunk cutter Teviot, has turned up safely. WELLINGTON, December 30. The man Creighton who was rendered nnconsoious during a struggle between O'Connell and himself in Dimock's bacon factory on Friday night is still at the Hospital, and has not yet regained consciousness. O'Connell, who was taken into custody, was remanded on bail for a week.
The Hon. Mr Reeves returned from Australia by the Port Melbourne, which arrived this morning. He was accompanied by Mrs Reeves. The Natives are threatening trouble in connection with the Horowhenua block, and the manager of the State farm wired yesterday that some uneasiness had been caused to the women folk resident on the estate. Instructions were sent to the manager to proceed civilly against the Natives if they render themselves a nuisance by violence, and telegraph for police assistance if they resort to violence. Mr Garrard, Minister of Publio Instruction in the New South Wales Government, visits New Zealand early next month. The Stock Department has received from the Agent-General a copy of a notice issued by the Imperial War Department inviting tenders for the storage and supply of frozen mutton for the use of the British troops at Malta and Gozo.
John Callaghan, another of the Kai* koura's firemen, was committed for trial in connection with the assault on Quartermaster Harris.
Sixty-eight insolvencies occurred in Wellington last year, as against fifty-two in the previous year. DUNEDIN, December 30. The regatta at Port Chalmers, postponed from Boxing Day,-was only moderately attended, and the proceedings were not interesting, Only one crew, the Queen's Drive, started for the Championship Fours. The mercantile people presented Mr Grant with a purse of 120 aovs. The Colonial Treasurer, who made the presentation, explained that Mr Grant's transfer* ence was caused by the Government think* ing that one of the most experienced managers should have charge of the Auokland distriot, as settlement was progressing anace in that district.
