FIRES.

On Sunday afternoon, about five o'clock, the three-roomed dwelling-house of Mr Thomas Creedy, at Milford, was burned to the ground. Mr Creedy took bis children to church at Temuka in the morning, and after church.the latter, whose ages range from six to fourteen years, returned home, and Mr Creedy stayed at Temuka. The children, on reaching home at dinner-time, lit a fire and had tbeir meal, and afterwards went out to play, leaving a small tire in the fireplace. The house, which was of wood, was observed to be on fire about five o'clock, aud it is conjectured tbat some embers from the fire were blown on to tbe floor aud caused the mischief. Nothing was saved. Mr Creedy is a poor man, with a large family dependent on him, and the loss, which will amount to fully £60, is a disastrous one for him.
