Fbidav. An off morning., Work, howOTer, commenced early and a few useful gallop* were done. Colbeck galloped once round, being brought along by Watchword over the last six furlongs. Golden Fleece and £3ng Wai each treat steadily orat
circuit, Leontine, looking brisht, cantered Pegasus strode steadily over once round, bat Sent Free was galloped solidly over two circuits. Impulse and Lake Shell registered a mile fast, and Black Cloud traversed six furlongs at top speed. Clanranald, Barnatdo, and JLulnine each did half pacing work. Chainlink cantered and Wedlock pot in one round on the tan. at three-quarter pace. Crawley and Ahaura hruehed along over the best part of once round. Boval Roue and Three Star did half-pacing*, but The Dancer was more than half extended on the tan. Balqulther jumped the schooling hurdles, ana Love Shot and Strath Braan galloped a mile at a strong pace. St. John ran over a few furlongs fast. Mechanic did good striding work. Clarence cantered and Dumlop was given a good working gallop. Abel Tasman covered two circuits at half pace. Au R -voir put iv two rounds at half pace. Miss Mtdge and Lady Lear ran a mile fast, Salvo joining in the last half mile, bringing Madge, who beat Lady Lear, home. Bangipuhi moved freely over three rounds on the tan. Rangeflnder and Artillear finished together in a strong run mile. Justice did eteady work. Nothing important was done after breakfast. The Ghainshot—Miss Lucy colt solus, Pop'em, and Belligerent were spurted over short distances. Mild work wai apportioned Co Sharpshot. Bowshot, Cannon BU!, the Cbalnehof— Venus colt, Lady Sockburn, Nautilus Shell, Goldeu Vale, Medicus, Nirvana and Miss Orwell, and also toMaunlicher, Mauser, and Popgun, three Yaldhurst candidates, who put in two half-mile canters along the grass. They look well. The second day's racing of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting takes place to-day at Caulfield. Ruenalf appears to be travelling badly on the market, for the presumption it that he will bs reserved for the big Flemlngton prize. Failing Ruenalf, " Hotspur" selects Capstan to win. Norton is expected to start for the Steeplechase, and will have the services of J. Rickey, who left New Zealand last week to take charge of Mr Goilan'a jumpins team in Australia. The Canterbury Trotting Club notify thac any person found laying totalisator odds at its meeting to-day will be prosecuted, The Canterbury Trotting Club's Spring Meeting takes place to-day, and there is every promise of a capit&l day's sport. The following should run forward in their respective engagements:—Maiden Saddle Handicap, Hazlewood or Jeanette; Pony Harness, Ruby or Doris; Spring Handicap, Myrtle ; Selling Handicap, Hollywood; Pony Saddle, Ruby; Addington Plate, Oily; Dash ilandicap. Mallow; Electric Handicap, Milly or Orizaba. Nominations for the Lancaster Park Amateur Trotting Club's November Meeting close to nighc with the Secretary at Coker'a Hotel. Nominations for the Otago Oup and other events at the Dunedin Jockey Club s Spring Meeting close to-night.
