The Committee was instructed to enter into further negotiations for amalga* tiou with the Burns Club. The Board of Education has decided on legal advice to rescind the resolutions imposing charges on teachora' residences, also the reductions on certain salaries, they being found to be illegal. The Chairman stated that there were nearly 400 pupils in the seventh standard in the district schools, some being nearly eighteen years of age, and considered that this must be put a stop to. The matter was deferred.
GISBORNE, October 19. Delaney of the Wellington " Trocadero" was arrested by Constable Eeddell at Tologa Bay yesterday afternoon. Hβ was travelling under the assumed name of Fraser. The police here have taken charge of five portmanteaux, the property of Delaney, which had been sent up by the Australia and rebooted for Auckland. Dai&uey intended joining the Pingadee afi Tologa Bay. The agricultural show is well attended, and there is lovely weather. WELLINGTON, October 19.
