THE POST OFFICE BILL.
The Colonial Treasurer was considerably annoyed when the Statutes Revision Com: mittee reported that they were of opinion that it was too late in the session for them to consider so important a measure aa the Post Office Consolidation BilL Mr Ward said that there were only about twelve new clauses in the Bill, and it might have been passed in a few hours had he not consented to refer it to the Committee. He did ttot think the Committee had treated him well, &nd he eaid would not catch him in that way again. Captain Russell defended the Committee. He said ie was trne that the House had put through Bills with such rapidity that members had hardly time to read them, but the Revision Committee aoted differently. There were important questions raised in the Post Office Bill, and were the Committee to be blamed for wanting to consider them? Legislation was becoming a comolete burlesque, and to blamfc the Committee for desiriug to understand the legislation dealt with was a piece of effrontery Captain Russell did not expect from the Colonial Treasurer. However, Mr Ward moved that the Bill be made an order of the day for to-morrow, and the House agreed.
