The New York correspondent of the Daily News states thac the Republican leaders, iv view of the success of the new tariff, are about; to abandon protection. FATAL GUN ACCIDENT. Lord Drumlaurig was killed by the accidental discharge of his own guv while he was shooting at Bridgewater. THE KAISER AND THE ARMY. Berlin, October 19. The Kaiser, addressing his soldiers, said many of his personal military measures were misunderstood, bub he would triumph eventually like Frederick the Great. The army was the only support of the monarch. FATAL AFFRAY WITH SOCIALISTS. Vienna, October 19. Ten thousand Socialists who demanded the extension of the franchise marched to the iieichsrath. A body of six hundred police surrounded the building, and a tierce fight took plaoe, fifteen of the Socialists being sabred. NAPTHA SPRING ON FIRE. Tiflis, October 19. A naptha spring at Grosney, near Tiflis, caught fire. The flames spread with lightning like rapidity, and seventeen persons were enveloped and perished. THE AMEER. Calcutta,-October 18. News from Simla does not confirm the reported death of the Ameer. "* AN ANGRY MOB. New York, October 18. A mob is besieging the Washington Courthouses in Ohio, in which a negro prisoner whom they desire to aeize for the purpose of lynching is being tried. The military are defending the Courthouse. Already eight of the attacking party have been killed and' twenty wounded.
