AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was • held at Culverden on Saturday. Present;— Messrs D. Rutherford (Chairman), J. H. Davison, F. H. Wilson, W. Thornton, D. D. Macfariane, F. S. Northcote, and Alex. Macfariane. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Acton-Adams.
TheChairman. report was read. The receipts since last meeting were £63 'ss9d. The credit balance at the Bank of the County Fund account was £456 2s 2d, of the Water Race account £61135, and of the Government Loans to Local Bodies account £730.
It tvas resolved—That the span H to 6 in the Lower Waiau bridge be put in order at once; that the public pound at Waiau be repaired; that Mr J. Coakiey's offers to act as poundkeeper and replace rotten planks in Waiau bridge be accepted; and that notice be given to the police to take proceedings against the owners of cattle, pigs and horses trespassing on the Waiau-Ro—terham road:
Mr D. D. Ma<J——la ne gave notice that he would move at the next meeting— " That the Rating Act, 1882, be the Ratmg Act in force in the Amuri county, and all assessments of property made under the provisions of section 2 of the Rating Act Amendment Act, 1893, shall be made according to the rateable value of such property as the same is defined in section 2 of Che Rating Act. 1882." The report of the Inspector of Works for the water race'was read and approved. The contractor's offer of £16 to [substitute wooden bridges in lieu of open crossings, labour only, was accepted, and the Inspector was instructed to have the overflow weir made higher. : • , , The following accounts. were passed for payment:—County Fund account, £336 4s sd, water-race account £11 14s, and Government loans to local bodies account, £214 13s 6d.
A special meeting of the Council was then held, the same members being present. It was moved by Mr D. D. Macfariane, and seconded by Mr A. Macfariane—'- That this Council, by special order, make and levy a special rate "of five-sixteenths of a penny in the pound sterling upon all the rateable property within the Waiau Plains Water Supply District in the County of Amuri, to secure and pay the interest on a special; loan of £1000, which it has been decided to borrow under the Government Loans to Looal; Bodies Act, 18S6, for the purpose of new headworks to, and extending and repairing, the Waiau Plains water races, and further that the special rate be an annual recurring rate for a period of twenty-six years, and payable iv eqnal half-yearly instalments on the first of February .and the first of August in each year during the continuance of the said loan, and that a special meeting of the Council be held at the hour of 1 o'clock p.m., on Wednesday, the 14th day of November next, for the purpose of confirming the foregoing resolution." Carried.
It was unanimously resolved—" That the balance sheet for the year ending 31st March, 1894, as certified to by the AuditorGenual, be now adopted, and that the same be advertised open for inspection during office hours, at the Council Office. Culverden, and that fifty copies be printed for circulation among the ratepayers." The business then terminated.
