KAIAPOI v EAST CHRISTCHURCH.
In the above match, played at Lancaster Park, Kaiapoi won by 20 points (1 goal and % tries) to nothing. Mr F. E. Asquitk acted as referee. Kaiapoi started the game, and upon the return rushed the ball into the Easterns' territory, whence it was removed by a dribble by McKendry assisted by Izett. Baich, Roll and W. Moir carried the leather back again, and then Moriarty came through a scrum, his dribbling, supplemented by Gully's play, forerunning a iorce down on the part of the northern team, which was followed by another force from a place kick '•by Spring from a mark. The same player had another unsuccessful shot from a penalty, and after this the Yellow and Black fell away in their play and the Blues quickly had them on the defensive, and from a scrum on the East lines Scott secured a try, which Balch failed to convert. The play had been fairly even, East Cb.ristch.urch having had just a shade the better of it. In the second spell they were comparatively walked over. Twice in close succession they were forced, and then Oram, after heading a good rush, smartly recovered the ball, scored, and Renaldi improved the try. J. Moir soon after performed similarly, but no goal was registered. A few minutes later a piece of very indif- . ferent back play by the Yellows permitted a scrum to be formed at a dangerous place, and Chas. Simpson succeeded in getting over. He was subsequently as fortunate after a run made by W. Moir, this try following one W. Moir had obtained through the assistance of Roll and Batch's passing, but neither were increased by the place kicks, and when the game ended, not long subsequent to Simpson's score, East Christchurch were still on the defensive.
