THE NURSES' HOME.
It is understood that the Hospital Board has received a letter from Dr. Macgregor, Inspector of Hospitals, to the effect that the Minister in charge declines to pay over to the Board the sum of £500 in respect of the Nurses* Home. This amount the Board expected, and upon the strength of it they improved upon the original plans of the building. The refusal came in answer to an application from the Board to the Government for the £500, in addition to the subsidy of 24s for every £ subscribed on £1000 odd, which had been collected and deposited in the Bank. It is stated that the only condition on which the £500 would be granted was that at lea3fc £1000 must be raised by voluntary subscription, and that this stipulation was conveyed to the Board in a previous letter from the Government. The communication now received was to the effect that the conditions had not all been fulfilled, the home having been commenced on the site not originally agreed upon. Whatever may be the reason for tbe Government's refusal, the subject will cause some discussion at the next ordinary meeting of the Board, even if a special meeting is not deemed necessary to immediately consider the position.
