CHRISTCHURCH v LINWOOD.

The match between taams of the above Clubs took place on Lancaster Park, and drew a fairly large number? of spectators. It was won by Christchurch by 26 points (4 goals and 2 tries) to 3 points (1 try). Mr F. Evans acted as referee. Christchurch (Red and Black) started the ball, and immediately had the play in Liv wood (Green) quarters, where a few minutes' later Mendelson tried a pot, which miated its mark. Ford, by smart following up, touched the ball down and secured a try, while Linwood were appealing for "offside" on the part of other Christcnurch players. Wilson converted. Then, after an exchange of kicks, Gledhill got in at the corner, having received a pass from Mendelson, who got the ball from Wilson. The try was) not improved. Following this there were many minutes of play of a more even character, Middleton, Cowlishaw, Smith, Humphreys, Wilson and Mendelson being prominent for the Reds. Irvine, Price, O'Brien, Bowker and Hobbs were the moat noticeable for the Greens. Orchard successfully stopped two Red rushes, but Wilson immediately afterwards made a long pass to Gledhill, who handed the ball to Mendelson, and the latter got over at the corner again. AppKeby'a place kick was unsuccessful. A pot at goal by Wilson ended in the Greens being lorced. They played more smartly now, but fell away again, and the spell ended with another force against them. The •econd spell was until near the finish a contest fought out almost continually in the Greens' quarters, and saw the largest half of the scoring made. Quite early Wilson from a pass from Mendelson scored a try, and he converted it; then Mendelson after a good run obtained another touch-down, which Wilson converted, while the former player added a third try to his own credit, Wilson again improving upon it. Some better work by the Greens enabled O'Brien to narrowly escape scoring, but his second attempt a minute or so later met with the happier result, though Hobbs' place kick sent the ball wide of the posts. Christchurch were next forced from a penalty, and the game ended without further score on either side.
