April 29. The Minister of Lands and the Treasurer represent the Ministry at the opening of the Rock and Pillar section of the Otago Central on Tuesday.
It is stated that Mr V. Pyke's health is so bad that there is little likelihood of his taking his seat, and he thinks of resigning. Mr Mackay, of the Labour Bureau, and some officers of the Survey Department;, leave town on Monday to select two blocks to be taken up under the assisted settlement scheme. When the selections are made thirty men will be sent from town to clear the bush.
