MR SEDDON MAKES AMENDS.
We are ve>y glad to leara that Mr. Seddon has had the courage to make amends to tbe Evening Post, and thus practically to coufeas that be was in tbe wrong in hie attempt to boycott
that paper. aud the Press Association. "We spoke in strong terms of his condnct in our issue of Wednesday because we thought he deserved it. But as he is now repentant, and has expiated his offence as far as possible, we are very glad to give expression to our satisfaction. A self-willed man like Air. Seddon frequently goes wrong and does things of which he oughb to bo ashamed, aud of which his friends are ashamed. But it is not every mau of that description who is strong enough and magnanimous enough to admit that he has done wrong and to seek to uudo his wrong action. Wβ are giad to find that Mr. Seddon has the magnanimity to pursue this course. Wβ are sure he will not regret it, and that he will gain in public esteemThough we always desire to bit an opponent hard when he has douo what we think to be wrong, we are equally glad to reooguise the merits of hia good actions.
We hope this littlo affiir will teach Mr. bEDDON a lesson, and cause him to be leas arbitrary He should remember
that those who difier from him have their rights as well as he, aud he must respect those rights. He will find it to be good policy to do so. Quite as much can be gained by conciliating methods as by those of aa autocrat. Moreover, it is the most unfortunate mistake which a public man can make if he attempts to muzzle a newspaper. We can only repeat again oar satisfaction that Mr. Seddon has, even if somewhat tardily, discovered these truths aud made fitting reparation for his previous disregard of them.
