MEETING OF CREDITORS.

RE T. W. THOMAS.

The first meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Thomas Weary Thomas, farmer, Teddingtoo, was held yesterday at the office of the Official Assignee. The bankrupt's statement showed as under :—Unsecured creditors, £46114s sd; stock-in-trade at Teddington, £112 15a 6d; deficiency, £348 18* lid. The larger ut> secured creditors were—Morrow, Basaett and. Co., £55 17s sd; M. Thomas, £100: W. J. Shepheard, £38 os4d; HoUis and Williams, £25 16a 2d; Robert Kirk, £6; Rbind and Wagttaff, £5 3s sd; John Watson, £8 10s; Thos. McCarthy, £8 3s 10d; C. Scott, £6; J. W. Smith and Oα, £10; George Robinson, £14 2s; John Thomas, Jan., £69 15s; Mark Thomas, jun., £93. The bankrupt's property comprised cows, horsoa, pigs, &c, and farm implemented ' The debtor on oath stated that he was a contractor and farmer. He had for two yeara worked eighty-four acres at Teddington, for which he paid £160 rent per year to Mr W. Gebbie. Hβ bad no land of hie own. He had been contracting for road work for some ten years. He wee in debt when he took the farm, but) not so heavily as at present. He reckoned a good harvest would pull him through. The harvest was not good. It only gave 19 bushels to the acre, and this year the caterpillars had rained it. Hβ had nine children, of whom two sons had helped him greatly. He had a daughter, nineteen years of age, who was an invalid. Hβ had filed because he saw no prospect of clearing himself, and some of his creditors threatened legal proceedings. He lived on five acres, Church reserve, on which he paid rates and taxes. When he ordered material to enlarge his house he was insolvent. His last harvest was a failure. Seventy-four acres of barley were ruined by caterpillars* and ten acres wheat gave a very poor yield. | Hie partner, Mr Or ton Bradley, was reeponsible for the rent. After further examination the meeting adjourned until Tuesday next at 11 a.n)., for the attendance of Mr O. Bradley with particulars pa to the partnership said to subsist between him and the debtor. .
