WEST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL.
The boys' annual'swimming'races were held in the School bath on .Thursday afternoon. The weather was most favourable, and the events were keenly; contested. The handicapping produced very close finishes in most of the races. Mr G> Tombs, a member of the School Committee, acted as one of the judges, and Mr P. Watson as starter. The results were as follows:—Champion Race, 100 yards—Sam. Bennetts 1 ; time, 97 2-sth sec. Handicap, under eleven years, 25 yards —H. Legros 1, H. Fox 2. Handicap, 100 yds— H. Sherwood 1, J. Jack 2. Learners' Race, over twelve—P. Worthmgtonl.W. Turnbull 2. Learners' Race, under twelve—S. Orrlj H. Gill 2. Long Dive—S. Bennetts (100 ft 9in) 1, A. Jack 2. Handicap, over thirteen, 50 yards—D. Rodger 1. H. Hamlin 2. Plunging—S. Bennetts (28£ ft) 1, B. Anderson 2. Handicap, under thirteen —H. Watson 1, A. Jack 2. ' Neatest Dive, from springboard—H. Gill 1, B. Anderson 2. Consolation Handicap, over thirteen—F. Weir 1, R. McDonald 2. Consolation Handicap, under thirteen—H. Walker 1, W.Shaw 2.
A public meeting was held in the South' brook Schoolroom on Thursday, to further consider the erection of swimming baths. Mr Seed, Chairman of the School Committee, presided. There was a large attendance, and the following resolution was carried unanimously :—" That in the opinion of this meeting the formation of a bath is practicable, and that a Committee be appointed to take the work in hand." The following Committee was elected:— Messrs Wallace, Seed, Bean, Addison, Withers, Sansom, Dyson, Blake, Watson, Ellis, Pickard, and Ogden. The Committee subsequently elected Mr Wallace chairman, Mr Bean secretary, and Mr Ellis treasurer.
