RANGIORA

Themonthlymeetingof the Rangiora Council was held ou Friday evening, 'inhere were present—The Mayor (Mr J. Sauaom) and Councillors Biackett, Foster, Graham, Keir aud Jennings.. Apologies for absence were received trom Councillors Good and CJone. Correspondence was read—From Shand, Mason and Co., stating that 400 feet of hose for the Fire Brigade had been shipped to the Council. From the Ashley Road Board, stat* ing that the cost of maintaining the Ashley Traffic Bridge from August, 1892 to the3lrt January, 1894, was £40 15a 6d, and the proportion payable by tho Borough £8 19b 4d. The account waa passed for payment. From the Kaiapoi Borough Council with reference to the* arrangements made for the licensing elections. In discussing the letter a feeling was expressed that there should bo a. polling . booth at Fernside. tt was mentioned that -the Road Board had moved iv the matter. The Works Committee reported that a contract for a culvert across George street was let to Mesars Ballantiue and Thompson for £4 10a. The culvert was now completed, and also the whole of the contracts for kerbing aud chauueliiug footpath™ Tfce work was satisfactory, and payment for same was recommended. The bridge across the cieok at Mrs Torlcaae's property had been' put down. The report,w_s adopted. The financial statement for the month showed the receipts to have been £47 3s 6d, and the Bank credit balance to be £260 ls7d. Accounts amounting to £173 lis lid wete passed fat payment. Mesars White aud Hoaegood interviewed the Council with reference to iroprovements required to Durham street, lhe Mayor informed them that the Council could not takeover the street until it .wa« formed and "shingled. It was agreed.to refer the matter to Mr _t. Biackett, the original owner of the property, who had expressed his willingness to form and metal the street. The Council then adjourned.
