AMATEUR- ATHLETICS.
(PRESS association telegram.) AUCKLAND, March 10. The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club's annual carnival was held this afternoon iv the Domain, 4000 spectators being present, including Lord and Lady Glasgow and suite. The following are reaults:—
One mile walk—H. N. Cros3ar, 240 yds, 1; J. Dickey, 190 yds, 2; A. A. Creamer, 240 yds, 3. Ton started. Euteriug the straight in the last round McCaffer (220 yds) was winning easily. When three yards from the post he eased off and Crossar shot past him. McCaffer was brought up before the stewards aud disqualified. Time, 6min 56 _-stasee. The deieuce oi _LcCa._et was | that he got a stitch.
Mile novice bicycle—T. E. Patterson, 120 yds, 1; W. W. Phipps, 90yds, 2 ; VV. Pilkington, scratch, 3. Time, _mm 59sec.
100 yards handicap—A. Jones, 6iyds, 1 ; G. Warner, B_yds, 2 ; W. Barton, 7yds, 3. This race was run in four heats. Iv the final Jones and Warner ran a dead heat and in the run off Jones won by a yard. Time, lOsec.
One mile and a half bicycle hatidicap — Surraan, scr, 1; A. J. Simelhag, 300 yds, 2 ; G. Hendry, 80yds, 3. Time, 4min 2*4 3-sth sec.
One mile Club championship—W. Farqnhar 1, A. A. Davis 2, J. W. Wink 3, Time, 4min 36 4-sth sec.
Putting the weight, handicap— J. C. Rhodes v4_ft), 36ft l_in, 1; Kallender 2. Four contested.
Three-mile bicycle handicap—E. Surman, scr, 1; A. T. Firth, 180 yds, 2 ; H. Mitchelson, 180 yds, 3. Time, 9rnin lOsec.
120 yards hurdle handicap—T. Roberts, owes 10yd3, 1; P. Brodie, owes 2yds, 2; E. T. Laurie, 2yds, 3. Time, 18 l-sth sec. Half-mile handicap—J. McLeod, oOyda, 1; A. E. Parker, 40yds, 2; G. A. Broadburn, 20yds, 3. Time, 2min 2seo.
Half-mile handicap, bicycle—W. Pilkington, 30yds, 1; F. W. Hunt, 70yds, 2 ; A. T. Firth, 40yds, 3. Time, lmin 20 4-sth sec.
300 Yards Ladies' Bracelet—A. James, 15yds, 1; G. Warner, 23yds, 2; A. H, Freeman, 19yds, 3. Time, 32sec.
Two mile walk—A. A. Creamer, 400 yds, 1; A. F. Burton, scr, 2 ; H. Bush, 300 yds, 3. Time, 15min l-sth sec. Burton's .time was 15min 34sec.
Throwing the hammer—T. B. O'Connor," 94ft, 1. Three competed.. Quarter-mile hurdle handicap—T. Roberts, scr, 1; J. W. Burgess, 20yds, 2; H. J. B. Bull, 15yds, 3. Time, 60 4-sth sec. S. Laurie knocked the last hurdle down, and Roberts, coming in fine style, won a fast race.
Three-quarter - mile bicycle combination race. The competitors had to run one lap with their machines, ride one lap, dismount, put on tail coat and belltopper, and finish. The event caused great merriment; Conborough winning easily, H. Nioholson secoud.
Quarter-mile handicap—W. H. Francis 24yds, 1;J. E. Crammond 21yds, 2 ; W. Farquhar, 16yds, 3. Time, 51 4-sbh sec. Ten mile bicycle handicap—A. W. Hurt 1, W. W. Pilkington 2, S. HemmiDg 3. Time, 34min 45sec.
