A HUGE DEFICIT. PreM Aeeociation—By TalegrapU—Copyright. Rome, February 22. The budgefc which wa9 presented to Parliameut to-day shows & deficit-o££ 177,000,000 lire (£7,080,000). The Government propose to-save 45,000,000 lire by reductions in the public service and 100,000,000 lire by the conversion of the public debt to 4 per cent. Fresh taxation will be imposed, and the corn duty raised to seven Urea per quintal. The Government iutend to coin twenty million lires' worth of nickel centimes and issue sixty million lirea , worth of Treasury notes. It is also intended to abolish octroi duties on flour and bread. February 23. Italian stocks have fallen 3|. The Government intends to propose an income tax of 20 per cent.
