THE NEW ZEALAND MATCH.

Mr T. D. Harman, the Secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association, has been in communication with the Railway Commissioners as to cheap fares during the match between New South Wales and New Zealand, commencing on Thursday next. The following letter has been received by Mr Harman from Mr Gaw, . tbe traffic manager here :—"Christchurch, February 10th. Sir,—Referring to your application to the Railway Commissioners for cheap fares in connection with next week's matches, I have the houour to say cheap fares, will be charged on the 16th inst. (Friday next) from Ashburton, \vaitaki and intermediate stations, except in the case ot short, distances, including the Springfield, WhitecUfis, Southbridge and Oxford branches.— I have, &_-, W. H. Gaw, Traffic Manager." The charges for admission to the ground

for the match New South Wales v New Zealand, will be the same as those in the other match, viz., to the ground, men Is, ladies, children and schooiuoys 6d ; to the stand, meu Is, ladies, children and schoolboys 6J. After 4 pm. each day the charge for admission will be 6d all round. As will be seen by au\-ertisement elsewhere, his Worship the Mayor invites the citizens to close their business premises at 1 p.m. on Thursday next, the first day of the match. The names of several legal firms, &c, who intend closing are published elsewhere. On account of the intercolonial cricket match the Holiday Committee of the Chamber of Commerce request! all business firms to close their doors ou Thursday, 15th inst., at 1 p.m. There is now en view at the shop of Messrs Davies and Lamb a very handsome cup, which i 3 intended to be presented as a trophy in the forthcoming match between tbe New South Wales team and All New Zealand. It is given by Messrs.Fletcher, Humphreys and Co. on behalf of Messrs Lever and Co., tbe proprietors of the weil-l:uown Suulight soap, for the best all-round play in ihe match exhibited by any member of the New Zealand eleven. The arrangements for the concert to be given by the New South Wales team at the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday eveuing are progressing. A good programme fs in course of arrangement, and no doubt as the concert is for the benefit of the Canterbury Cricket Association there will be a large attendance on the occasion.
