Port Levy, atHu on Thursday afternoon was with Mr Meitning mustering sheep, and apparently in the very best ot health; Mr Fleming was : working a little lower down the' hill th/_n the deceased, and.* while busy with t'ne sheep, missed his companion. Going up* to ascertain what had become of him, /he found the unfortunate young fellow IV ing On the ground unconscious, and appare/atly suffering from the effects of a fit. Fjvery effort was made to restore him t«i consciousness, but without effect, and he •died about half an hour after Mr Fleming 'found him. The whole thing took place in less than three-quarters of an hour, as the two men were not separated more .than fifteen minutes. A telephone message was | sent to Lytteiton, and the body was brought to Port late on Thursday night, and con- , veyed to the'morgue to await an inquest. ; Aa inquest was held yesterday afternoon | at the Mitre Hotel, before R. Beetham, Esq., Coroner, and a jury of six, of whom Mr W. Radcliffe was chosen The circumstances surrounding the sad occurrence were detailed by Mr R. Fleming, and whose statement was practically the same as that given above. Thomas Wylde Pah-man, medical practitioner residing at Lyttelton, deposed that the cause of death was apoplexy. There was a small wound at the back of the head which bad evidently been caused through decease! slipping down the face of the hill. The wound was, however, unimportant. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimonyThe funeral of the late deceased gentleman will leave the Parsonage, Opawa, at 3 p.m. to-morrow. [■ =-_. ■
