COMMERCIAL NEWS.
The import market has, during the week, received transhipments ex Auckland from Glasgow, some fair transactions iv whiskies being reported ex this vessel. The Margaret Galbraith, also from Glasgow, is hourly expected at Lyttelton via Auckland. The s.s. Rotokino reported at the Bluff yesterday from Calcutta and Singapore with a cargo of jute goods and other Eastern produce, while the ship Maxwell from Calcutta, with a cargo consisting principally of cornsacks, arrived yesterday at Lyttelton. Sound good business will doubtless be booked from these seasonable arrivals. German granulated sugar has agaiu put in an appearance, the Ruahine bringing a small consignment. It is to be hoped this venture will have better luck than its predecessors of a few years back.
Sales of general merchandise for the 25th delivery are reported as barely up to the average, and show evidence of careful trading on both sides. Market values are unchanged for all goods except kerosene, this item haviug reached Is sd, at which figure holders are firm.
