LADY GLASGOW'S VISIT TO KAIAPOI AND BELFAST.
Yesterday Lady Glasgow and 3uite were driven to KaiapoL on a visit to the Woollen ——ill and Belfast Freezing Work. The party included her Ladyship and one of her sons. Miss Wauc'oop, and his Excellency's private secretary and Mr 3F. Waymouth, Secretary of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company. The gentlemen who met the party at the mill were Messrs CL H. Blackwell, W. JR. Mitchell, W. Harris and E. Parnham, Directors, aud J. Leithhead, Manager of the mill, _s well as Mr E. Feldwick {Mayor), and Mr J. Lowtbian Wilson. Lady Glasgow manifested a keen interest in the various processes of the manufacture, and was greatly pleased with the healthy appearance of the operatives. Her Ladyship expressed herself surprised at the attention and care given to the manufacture of various woollen fabrics, as well as at the excellence of quality and fiuish. Some of the samples of manufacture just completed from the looms were-really very striking, and could not be excelled by any woollen factory in the world. Lady <x asgow expressed her warmest thanks to .Mr Blackwell (Chairman of Directors) for the courtesyaad kindness accorded to herself and party. The weather was most pleasant and cheerful, and aa .the party drove along they greatly admired the appearance of the -con—try with its neat homes, plantations, gardens and farms, and the abundance of onopa both growing and in stook. Passing Belfast a visit was paid to the Freezing 'Works, which so far as possible were _u_nbely examined. A return to XSovernonent Souie was made towards the close of the afternoon, the day's outing having been highly successful and much appreciated.
