Ollivier tendered some Bound advice to the team, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to him for the trouble he had taken iv looking after the practices, _c. The following is a brief criticism ot the team :—
L. A. Cuff (Lancaster Park)—A hard hitting bat, and in good form at present, although not quite at vis best. A good field aud fair change bowler. Will captain the team. Has represeuted Canterbury in nearly every match since 1887. J. U. Collins (United)—The wicketkeeper of the team, takes both fast and slow bowling well. A good bat, and has been at practice. First played for Canterbury last season, buc is an old Wellington '* rep." De Maus (Lancaster Park) —At one time the best bat in Canterbury. Has been out of luck lately, but fast improving. Has made good scores repeatedly in big matches. A slow bowler, breaks both ways, and in his day very dangerous. Fair field. Has played regularly for Canterbury in last four seasons. A. H____AN (United) —A fine bat with capital defence and punishing power. Is in good form at present. A splendid out field and safe catch. Can bowl as a change. Has represented Canterbury since 1890.
J. D. Lawrekcb (Midland)—A punishing bat when.well set, rather nervous in big matches. Has been scoring- largely lately, aud showing good form at -practice. . Good field and can bowl fast if required. First played for his province a couple of seasons ago. A. M. Labatt. Warehousemen) —The beat bat iv the team, good all round the, wicket, and has splendid defence. * First Class held and principal fast bowler of the eleven. In fine form at present. Has. taken-part in iuterprovincial matches since his arrival from England in 1883. E. V. Palmes (United) — Good slow bowler,- works both ways, keeps a capital length and not afraid to pitch them up. Good field at point, and bats, well, beiug particularly strong on the leg side. Played against Otago last season. W.PEA__E(Ware_ou_e__e_)—Fast bowler, bumps them a lot, sound field, and much improved bat. His first appearance for the province. A. Ridley (Lancaster Park)— Fine outfield, and very safe catch. • Not quite at bis brat with the bat, but a dangerous man, who scores fast. First - played for Canterbury in 1890. W. Robertson (Midland) — The slow bowler of the team; breaks both ways, his leg breaks being particularly deadly. Only requires to use his head more to be a really first-class bowler. Poor field and bat. His first appearance in an inter-provincial match. F. Wilding (Lancaster Park) — The veteran of the team, at present batting fairly well. Is always to be relied upon at a pinch and a hard man to get out when he thoroughly makes tip his mind to stay. Tricky, slow bowler and fair field. Has played for Canterbury in nearly every match for the last dozen years. In connection with next week's match, it may be mentioned that ladies' tickets will be issued at Is each to admit to both ground and stand, and afternoon tea will be provided for their benefit on both afternoons.:
