SUPPOSED SUICIDE.
(PKKB3 ASSOCIATION TE-EaRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 28. A man named Irwin, living in Alexandra street, was supposed to have taken strychnine. Tbe police hearing of tho occurrence went to his.house last night. He refused to give any information. Tha constables, seeing the man was ill, gay* him an emetic of salt and water and sent for Dr. Lawry, who used the stomach pump. Tb«-v secured two empty packets both mai;.;" "Poi-on, Strychnine. A cup ooataioing ~i_, _ ;";i on the inside was found on the table. Mrs Irwin stated that her husband had boon drinking for the last few days. They had driven him home iv their trap about half-past five in tho afternoon. He went into the back yard and came buck in again, and-when sho next sa\v him he had a white paper in, hia hand marked " poison," which ho shook over a cup mf then drank the contents.
