LYTTELTON REGATTA.
A meeting of tbe Committee of tbe Lyttelton regatta took place Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance. The Commodore (Mr F. Waymoutb) occupied the chair. Tbe Hon. Treasurer reported that the entries, which had closed that evening, were for the most part satisfactory. The rowing races were ail well supported. After considerable discussion it was resolved to make two races for boats for the warships, one for an unlimited number of oars,' the ■prizes being £10 for first and £2 for second, the other race to be for single banked boats of not more than seven oars. The distance in each was made three miles. A letter was received from Captain Clayton,< A.D.C. to his Excellency Lord Glasgow, accepting the invitation of the officials to be present on Regatta Day. The matter of the reception and entertainment of the Viceregal party was left in the bands of the -'Commodore, Vice-Commodore, and Captain Willis to arrange. The Secretary stated that Lieutenant Joyce of the Lyttelton Navals, had very kindly offered to place the Navals' cutter and a boat's crew at. the disposal of his Excellency on Regatta Day. The offer was accepted with thanks. On the motion of Mr T. L. Smith, seconded by Mr J. T. Brice, it was resolved—" That a letter of condolence be sent to the late Commodore of the regatta, Captain T. M-Clatchie, on tbe occasion of the death of his wife." After disposing of several other matters the meeting adjourned till 9 a.m. on New Year's Day.
