(PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.,) DUNEDIN, December 27. The Chess Congress was continued today with the following reanlte :— MellorvCleland—MeUor played the Alleaier Kiescretzki Gambit. Cleland adopted PauUretnV defence. Cleland won a piece at tho eighteenth move, A dozen mores later his oppouent resigned. Borton. v Mouafc—Borton opened the Allaier Gambit, which was accepted. About the twenty-first move Monat was in difficulties, and being called away exceeded hie time limit, the game going to hie opponent by forfeit. Brown v Lelievre—The Giooco Piano upening was adopted by Lelievre. Ninetyone moves were made fo the three hours bi« fore lunch, and en resuming it was agreed! to draw. Edwards v Barnes—Edwards played the Sicilian defence. A very even game followed until about 3.30, when Edwards announced mate in two moves. Hookham v Pleasants—Hookham adopted the Ray Lopez opening and Pleaaants replied with the Berlin defence. At the fifteenth move Pleasants lost a piece. Another followed afe twenty-fifth move and Plewants resigned. Smith had » bye.
