MR HOLMES' MEETING.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. . Sir, —The Lyttelton Times this morning concludes its report- of Mr Holmes' speech delivered here oa Saturday as under:— "Mr Holmes addressed another meeting in : the evening when he met wit,h a cold reception, and was frequently interrupted." The words I have marked. for italics convey an absolutely wrong impression. 'Mr Holmes did not receive a cold reception. iHe was interrupted at times. But the interruption was evidently organised by young men who should have possessed more sense, and when they found that the conduct shown in the afternoon was not to be allowed to be repeated, they simply left the hall. The meeting at night, with the exceptions—l think they occurred twice—mentioned, was orderly and quiet. It wa3 not demonstrative either one way or another, but at its cloze the speaker was both applauded aud warmly thanked.—Yours, &c, One. who was Present. Ashburton, November 27th.
