LARGE FIRE AT KAIAPOI.

A large fire occurred at two o'clock this morning iv Otaki street, Kaiapoi, by which the twelve-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr Thomas Sutherland was burned to. the ground. The Fire Brigade turned out under Superintendent Blackwell, as -soon as the alarm was given, but as no water was available their services were of little use, and the nre burned itself out. Tbe house was insured for £600 in the New Zealand office, and the furniture for £75. The damage is estimated at £800 on the house and -3175 on the furniture. The fire broke out near the kitchen chimney, but it ia is not known what caused it.
