THE ASHLEY SEAT.

[Br An Oxford Labourer.] The time h,%s come for the electors to decide who is to represent them in Parliament. Who is to be the choice of Ashley ? If we want a man who pretends to be the working n_a__ friend in order to gull them into voting for him, it we want a man who will support the Noxious Weeds Bill when it is brought up next session, a Bill which will drive most of the farmers cut of the country, if we want a man who will vote for the Lands for Settlement Amendment Bill, which will enable the Government at its awn sweet will to take any poor man's hard-wocked-for section at its own valuation, if we want the man who pretended to. be in favour of the WaimakaririAshlfey water supply, and then Btrongly opposed a measure which would have enabled the Government to find tbe Board the money for that work, if we want a man who has failed to keep the pledges he made before the last election, if we want, in short, a good all round political humbug, then we will vote for Mr Meredith. But if on the other hand we v/ant an honest, Btraightforvfrard man Who will do his best for the country generally, a man Who will uphold the liberty so dear to British subjects, a man who is in favour of giving the people the opportunity to settle on the land, who is in favour of making town and country pay equal shares of taxation, if we want a man who will uphold our present system of education and will oppose any measure likely to injure it. If, I say, we want a than of this stamp, then we will vote for Mr Macfarlane.
