MR SANDFORD MISREPRESENTS MR HOARE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I don't wish to accuse Mr Sandford of wilful misrepresentation last evening at the Theatre, and no doubt he will withdraw his statement as soon as it is pointed out. Speaking of Mr Hoare, whose views ohfthe. Chinese question he was commenting on, Mr Sandford stated that this gentleman sought to ; prevent the * Salvation Army from parading in the streets. Now, sir, I was present at the Tuam streeC Hall when Mr Hoare first spoke, and also at the Theatre, when he explained that' his remarks on the former occasion had been misconstrued. He told the electors that though personally he did not approve of the methods of the Army yet he was in favour of the rights and liberty of the subject being respected, andi he would accord to the Salvation Army the same freedom of procession in the public streets which other organisations possessed. If Mr Sandford knew of this explanation his statements last evening can only be denounced as degrading to him ; if he did not know perhaps he will withdraw as publicly as he made them. —Yours, Ac, An Elector. Christchurch, November 25tb, 1893.
