AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, October 24. Tne Finance and Legal Committee of the Harbour Board recommend that the Lyttelton Harbour Board be informed that upon the arrival of dredge No. 121, from Mcl- j bourne, the Board is prepared to lease" the j same for six or twelve months at a rental of £200 per month, the Lyttelton Harbour I Board to'pay all the cost of insurance up to £20,000, to take delivery of in and return the dredge to Auckland harbour when directed, and to keep and to maintain the j dredge and gear in good order and condition. The statement of the money received and paid on account of the Harbour Board for the quarter and the three-quarters ending September-30th, 1893, was laid before the Board to-day. This shows the revenue for the three quarters to be £43,843, expend.-' ture £35,466, the balance being £3377. The revenue for the quarter ending September 30th was £21,029 Is 3d, expenditure £12,651, balance £8377.
A petition was received from nineteen shipwrights stating that there was insufficient work to keep them going and they would have to leave Auckland unless work was provided for them. It was suggested that the Harbour Board works should be let to them on the co-operative principle, which would enable them to tide over the depression. The petition was reierred to the Works and Tariff Committee to report.
