At Flemington this morning Loyalty and Launceston ran a splendid mile in lmin 47sec, Loyalcy'e beautiful level action eliciting warm commendation from experienced touts. Penance, who i 3 looking wonderfully well, and is apparently quite sound, traversed a mile and a half in 2min Slsec. Dickens accomplished a similar task, displaying form that warrants the assumption that he must have a chance for the Derby. Portsea and Patron covered a serviceable mile and a half. Patron has improved wonderfully during the last few day 3. Betting is slack pending to-day's developments. Oxide is equal favorite for the Melbourne Cup with Loyalty. Camoola and Halvollo are at 100 to 7. A wager of 2000 to 60 has been taken about Jeweller for the event.
Later. A special meeting of the Committee of the Victoria Racing Club is called for 11 a.m. on.Wednesday to consider the appeal against the decision of the Stewards in dismissing the protest lodged against Tim Swiveller in the Caulfleld Cup. The bandtcapper has imposed a penalty of 141b on Tim Swiveller for the Melbourne Cup, bringing his weight up toSst lib; 71b on Brocklf igh, bringing bis weight up to 9s't, and 3Lb on Port Admiral, bringing his weight up to Bst 51b. John S. 7st 31b, and Carringcon 6st 111b, are not interfered with.
Several thousands have been taken about Loyalty for the big event at 100 to 7, causing him to harden to 100 to 8. A wager 01*2000 to 120 has been taken about Oxide and 1000 to 45 about Tim. Swiveller. Over 2000 has been taken about Brockleigh at 100 to 3, and 30C0 about Tarcoola at 200 to 5.
