Tuesday, September 26. (Before C. A. Wray, Esq.., R.M.) Wife Desertiox —Henry Williams was charged with deserting his wife, Elizabeth Williams, and seven children, and leaving them without adequate means of support. From the evidence it appeared that accused ( left his wife iv October last, and she had not j seen him since. He left her with £8, part
I of which went towards paying some arrears of rent and small bills. He sent her various small sums amounting altogether to £20 15s, but none since August last. Enquiries were made, and it was ascertained that ho had been working pretty regularly at his trade, that of a wheelwright, and had earned from 8s to 10a a day for a considerable period. A warrant was issued, and he was arrested in Wellington, where he was living with another ■woman under I the name of Henry Richmond. His Wor- \ ship commented severely upon accused's i cruel conduct, and ordered him to pay 20s ! a week towards the support of his wife and family, and to be imprisoned for three months with hard labour. Neglecting to Register.— J. Smith for ' neglecting to register the birth of a child 1 was fined 5s and costs. j Civil CASes.—Geo. Gibbs v W. Davie, claim £6 18s 8d ; judgmeut for plaintiff by default for amount claimed ami costs. Same v H. Lynch, claim £2 0s sd; judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs. Charteris v Duncan, claim 10s; judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs. Jas. Miles v N. Nathan, claim !£4 10s; judgment for plaintiff for amount i claimed aud costs.
