HOSPITAL BOARD.

An ordinary monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board was held at 2 p.m. yesterday, when there were present— Messrs J. Ren mc, H. W. Peryman, T. Cutler, W. Moor, J. Hamilton, E. D. Thomas, and H. Y. Widdowson.

In the absence of the Chairman Mr Thomas was voted to the chair.

Letters of apology for absence were received from the Chairman, Mr R. H. Wood and Mr W. Boag. The House Committee reported—" That in response to a letter sent to the Christchurch City Council relative to bringing the CD. Act into operation, the Council declined to take any steps in the matter. Dr Bolger, who had returned, had resigned the charge of the Akaroa Hoapital. Dr. Atterbury had sent in an application for the position, and the Committee recommended hia appointment. All the internal arrangements of the instititutions were in a most satisfactory condition, and working well and economically. Daring the month 120 patients were admitted, 117 discharged, 9 died, leaving 93 remaining in the Hospital. Of the deaths recorded 2 were the results of accident, 5 were of patients brought in in a moribund state, and 2 were from consumption of long standing. The receipts were—Chriatcburch City Council £80, subsidy £609 8a 7d, patients' fee 3 £32 Is. The expenditure was £752 10s Bd. The appointment of Dr. Atterbury was confirmed, and the report was adopted. The letter from the City Council re the CD. Act was received. Mr Psbvman asked what was being done with reference tq the Narees' Home. The Acting Chairman said the Bill introduced into Parliament with reference to the site, had passed the Lower House and wa3 read a second time 'in the "Upper House. The Committee to which it had been referred had, however, recommended that the Bill be not proceeded with. Several Canterbury members, notably Mr W. C. Walker, had persistently opposed the Bill. After a discussion it was reaolred that a special meeting ot the Board be called immediately after the close of the session of Parliament to consider the question of the Nurses' Home. The Board then adjourned.
