MEETING OF CREDITORS.

\ RE W. A. SIMPSON.

The first meeting of creditors in the estate of W. A. Simpson, Bank agent, now out ef employment, of Southbridge, was held at the office of the Official Assignee at 11 a.m. on Saturday. There were Beven creditors present, and Mr Russell appeared for the debtor. Several informal proxies were disallowed.

The debtor's statement showed unsecured creditors £519 5a lid; assets, furniture £400, and property £200—total £600 ; surplus, £80 14a 6d. The principal creditors were :— D.1.C., £23 19a Id ; W. Strange and Co., £46 9a ; Ballantyue and Co., £215s 8d; H. Fuhrmann, £43 ; A. J. White, £6 0s 6d ; Chas. Kiver, X, Grieshaber, £23 .19*; W. Harris, % gH. Hardcastle, £60; W. White aiidOci £5 lfis sd; W. Hibbard, £14 13s 91; A. Cameron and Co., £51 lls.8d; R. Webster, £6 9a ; D. Gilmour, £10 0s 6d; Kilbride and Hannal, £7 7s Id ; wages, £24 4a 2d ; W. Harper, JB6 9s; W. Johnston, £5 Iβ sd; Dr. Goseett, £5 18s; C. H. Willis, £46; Bank of New Zealand, £54. The banki 'pt was entitled under the will of the late Alex. Simpson of Baufi, Scotland, on the death of his mother to one-fifth share intheenmof £1400 lent to his father by Messrs Nesbitt and Co, of Banff, the present value of which he estimated at £200. The bankrupt said he had been compelled to file owing to pressure of creditors. The Official Assignee stated that under the circumstances they could only deal with the furniture, and it was ultimately decided to sell the furniture by auction at Southbridge. The bankrupt was examined at length concerning his transactions with Nesbitt and Co., in which firm he had been a partner up to eighteen months ago. While the affairs of the firm were being arranged bankrupt had given drafts on the arm against his partnership share. The drafts had been returned, and the ceditora asked for particulars. At the time he filed bankrupt said he did not know that all his partnership share had been exhausted.

It was decided to allow the bankrupt £7 worth of furniture over the amount allowed by the Act. The meeting then terminated.
