RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

. The monthly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. There were present —The Mayor (Mr J. Sansom), Crs. Blackett, Cone, Dobson, Foster, Good and Jennings. Messrs Keir, Roberts and Graham, the newly-elected Councillors, took their seats. The Mayor welcomed the Councillors, and referred to the state of the finances at the time of the election. The following letters were read and dealt with :— From the Returning Officer notifying the annual election of Councillors. From Charitable Aid Board forwarding amended liflt of recipients of aid in the district. The Secretary to the Hospital Board wrote i for payment of the Council's contribution for the year, £33 4s 3d.—Ordered to be paid. The Secretary to the Napier Fire Brigade wrote informing the Council that the Council's offer for hose had not \ been accepted. Mr Ponsonby wrote re < gorse fences round his section. The Secretary to the Charitable Aid Board wrote with reference to a case of desertion. Left to the Mayor to arrange. Mr E. A. Good wrote asking that. H. Frost's name be placed on the roll for R.S. 86. Agreed to. The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade wrote asking for 600 feet canvas hose and six pairs of couplings. The matter wa3 left to the Fire Brigade Committee. The Surveyor reported that the day men had been engaged repairing streets, cleaning drains, &c For the year 130 dogs had been registered, the fees from which, £53 17s 6d, had been received. The financial statement showed the receipts for the month £36 7s Id, credit balance in Bank £266 19s Bd. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £148 0s 6d. The Mayor ieported that three sections within the borough were said to be without owners, and it was decided to refer them to the Public Trustee. The Mayor reported that he had seen Mr Bartram with reference to his lease of the Ashley river bed, and found that the bed was reserved from bank to bank. Cr. Keir thought something should be done to acquire the right to use the river bed for sporting and recreation purposes. After some discussion, the matter was postponed. The Mayor reported that several married men in the borough were out of work, and it was decided to give them temporary employment. Members of Committees for the ensuing y ear : —Works, Crs. Blackett (Chairman), J ennings, and Cone; Finance, Crs. Good (Chairman), Foster, and Keir; Lighting, Crs. Jennings (Chairman), Roberts, and Foster ; Fire Brigade, Crs. Roberts (Chairman), Cone, and" Graham. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Mayor.
