It is officially announced that Sir Henry Norman, Governor of Queenslaud, baa withdrawn his acceptance of tbe Viceroyalty of India. September 21.
The Standard is astounded at Sir 33, "Notrnau'B decision and thinks the reasons given inadequate. It considers his action inexplicable and that the real cause is not revealed. His refusal trill put the Government in a serious dilemma. The Times, on the other hand, considers that the prudence and moral courage dictating the refusal ought to command general respect. The Daily _Wu- says great regret is generally felt at the news that Sir H. Norman has declined tho position. Brisbane, September 21.
Sir H. Norman withdrew his acceptance of the Vice-Royalty of India purely from the consideration of his health and from a feeling that great inconvenience would be caused to the Imperial Government if after entering upon the dutita of the oflico he should be compelled within a short period to relinquish them through breaking down under the strain. The Governor on Monday communicated his desire to be relieved of the houour conferred on him.
